Gettysburg, PA Posted by Hello

Sunday, October 03, 2004

This weekend I joined a group of men from our church on a trip to the battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was a wonderful time. You cannot help but feel an unworthy sense of awe at the loss of devastation of life that happened in that small town.

The very ground that my feet were standing on had been soaked with the blood of men who fought for freedom. I felt so unworthy. So very humbled. Incredibly moved. It was simply three days in July in 1863. Only 72 hours of time; but out of those three days come thousands of stories. Some enduring through the mist of the ages. Some stories fading into the starry memory of yesterday. Some stories have grown over time, other stories from those dreadful days that July need no exaggeration to be found incredible.

I am very humbled.
