Our family vacation this year was spent in my wife's hometown in southwest Ohio. It has been a good vacation relatively speaking.

Vacation Observations:
  • I don't care where I am, I cannot "sleep-in".
  • Car problems never happen at opportune times.
  • Car thermostats are not hard to change.
  • I am not a mechanic nor do I want to be.
  • The Museum Center in Cincinnati is one of the most stunning works of architecture in Ohio.
  • Vacations and work do not mix
  • IMAX movies are really cool, especially ones about the space program.
  • Dial-up vs. High-speed: High speed wins every time.
  • It is great to have relatives who own a pool.
  • It is great to have relatives period.
  • Homemade waffles taste so much better than what you can get at a restaurant.
  • I am the only one in my family who really liked M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village."
  • Actually, I am the only one in my family who liked M. Night Shyamalan's "Signs."
  • Ok, I really liked "The Sixth Sense" too. M. Night Shyamalan is an absolute genius. I don't think my wife agrees with me.
  • Of course I really liked "Napoleon Dynamite" too - Yesss!
  • Kids can have a great time wherever the parents have a great time, whether at the beach or in land-locked Ohio.
  • LaRosa's pizza in Cincinnati is still a great place to eat.

My vacation reading material has included a book I picked up this week, Open:Inside the Ropes at Bethpage Black by John Feinstein. It is a look at the 2002 U.S. Open, the first US Open held at a municipal golf course, giving the USGA a $13 million dollar net profit (the largest ever). It is a great read for golf fans. An even better read for people who are involved in organizing events.
