A man in our church died this past week. Since the pastor was out of the country that left me to mind the gap, and since the man had ministers in his family that performed the service that left a very minimul gap. I simply had to give a few remarks and read a letter from the pastor.
Friday, we took Cassidy out of school early and headed for the in-laws for twenty-four hours of R&R. My wife's father has been pretty ill and we were in need of a good visit. I found myself on Saturday wanting to do nothing much more than sleep and watch videos. I know it sounds horrribly indulgent and lazy - but those moments for me are way too rare.
Today we start revival at the church. It is very interesting to me how revival services have evolved since I was a child. In the church that I grew up attending, it was very common to have revivals that lasted several weeks (going from Sunday to Friday, taking Staurday off and then back on Sunday). Now, our revivals go from Sunday (AM & PM) to Tuesday evening. We used to call this a mini-revival. Is this an effective adaptation of ministry to culture? I guess the proof is in the production. I am hopeful.
On a less interspective and much more frustrating note, I have been trying to learn Adobe Photoshop. I have used the software casually over the past couple of years but I feel a need to develop my skills. I have a great book that I am tutoring myself through the initial concepts but I realized today that it is going to take some serious effort to get where I want to be. I want to develop graphic design credibility and this is the next step to master.
I guess I love a challenge.
